On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the season holds an approval rating of 100% based on 10 reviews, with an average rating of 6.78. The site's critical consensus reads, "After seven years of friendship, New Girl signs off with a thoughtful, funny final season that bids a proper adieu to its colourful cast of characters."[7]

New Girl was at risk of being canceled even before its seventh season, so I get that this probably wasn't a realistic possibility. However, a longer Season 7 without the three-year time jump into the future could have helped the show greatly.

The other characters were also set up for a busy seventh season. We could have watched Schmidt and Cece prepare for the birth of their child and Winston continue his quest to find his father. (The latter of these two subplots was resolved in a single, under-nuanced Season 7 episode). Nick and Jess could have still gotten married by the end of it.

I almost wish Season 7 hadn't happened so I could imagine Nick and Jess moving forward into a near-perfect future. It's disappointing how in the final episodes, their romance is devoid of the magic that made it so great early on. By making Nick and Jess' previously resolved relationship more chaotic for the sake of comedy throughout the final season, we miss out on that spark that made us root for the couple in the first place.

The entirety of the core cast are returning for the season, with Zooey Deschanel (Jess), Jake Johnson (Nick), Max Greenfield (Schmidt), Hannah Simone (Cece), Lamorne Morris (Winston) and Nasim Pedrad (Aly) all confirming their appearances.

I hear that was because of various reasons (for instance, star Zooey Deschanel is on maternity leave having just given birth to her second child), most if not all main cast members would not be able to return to work until the fall. With the logistical challenges, no space on the midseason schedule and a Season 6 finale that tied in a bow so many loose ends, the network leaned heavily toward not going with a seventh season.

In the new season, Nick (Jake Johnson), now a successful author of young-adult books, and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) have been " traveling around the world (on a book tour). They aren't married and don't have kids. There's room for growth," Deschanel said, hinting at story developments for the pair.

The season six finale would've served as a pretty great series finale, with Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) finally getting together (again!), and Cece (Hannah Simone) revealing she's pregnant with Schmidt's (Max Greenfield). The gang's all grown up and it'll be fun to see them tackle the next stage of adulthood in their final season.

Ahead of the season six finale, which aired on April 4, Jake Johnson hinted that the show could be coming to an end in an interview with The Daily Beast. "Fox won't tell us [whether the show will be renewed]. But we shot a finale where, if this was the end, the core fan base would be OK."

Deschanel and her husband Jacob Pechenik recently welcomed their second child, Charlie Wolf. There's no word yet if production on the seventh and final season will be impacted. In season five, Megan Fox was brought in to accommodate for Deschanel's maternity leave after giving birth to her first child.

Nick Miller has saved the day again. In an interview with TVLine, Jake Johnson revealed that New Girl Season 7 is happening thanks in part to his plea to Fox. The man who has spent six seasons playing the hilarious, down on his luck Nick was eager to write a letter to Fox's top brass explaining why Jess Day's journey shouldn't end with an (admittedly romantic) elevator kiss. According to TVLine, series creator Liz Meriwether asked her cast to write letters of support for the final season to Fox's co-chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman. Johnson was one of the castmembers who was ready and willing to go to bat for the series.

Just don't expect Season 7 to pick up exactly where Season 6 left off. The final season will consist of just eight episodes, and it will kickoff with a four year time jump. That means Schmidt and Cece will officially be parents, and Nick and Jess will have been together for quite some time. Skipping ahead four years is the best way to see how Nick and Jess function as a long-term couple, and to see how this close-knit group of pals are maintaining their friendships as their lives and careers move in different directions.

Played by Damon Wayans Jr., Ernie "Coach" Tagliaboo was a personal trainer and a former health teacher who lived with Schmidt and Nick. The trio interviewed Jess when she was on the hunt for a new home. She moved in with them in the pilot episode, but by Episode 2, Coach was gone, replaced in the apartment by a former basketball player named Winston Bishop. The on-screen reason given was that Coach moved in with his girlfriend, Malia.

Happy Endings wrapped up after Season 3. But as unfortunate as that was, the end of the series freed up Wayans to return to New Girl. Coach made his comeback in Season 3 as a full-time cast member. Once again, the reasoning for this hinged on Coach's girlfriend, Malia, but this time their breakup resulted in Coach coming back into the lives of Jess and company.

The whole situation got even more convoluted when Coach stopped being a series regular at the end of Season 4, especially as he made sporadic appearances throughout seasons 5 through 7, was frequently mentioned. This time, his absence was justified by Coach moving to New York with his new girlfriend. By the end of the series, it had gotten incredibly difficult to keep up with all of Coach's comings and goings.

New Girl attracted a substantial audience throughout its seven-season run, in addition to critical acclaim and a handful of Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. While the show had to work to find reasons to keep the group living together in the loft, fans continued to enjoy their antics throughout their changing circumstances.

Keep that in mind tonight as you tune in for New Girl season 7 episode 8, the series finale. At least the network made it somewhat sweeter for fans. Though the season itself is short, they made the final goodbye a little longer so you and your favorite show can have a final hurrah.

Keeping a long running TV show is tricky. Unless you're behemoths like Grey's Anatomy or The Walking Dead, viewership and overall quality can begin declining as the seasons go on. This seems to be the case with FOX's quirky sitcom New Girl, which was massively successful in early seasons but had a rough go last year. With Zooey Deschanel on maternity leave, the show struggled to survive without its title character, and ratings hit new lows. Luckily, they were granted a final seventh season to complete the show's narrative, which will include a time jump. The finale saw Cece and Schmidt realize they're having a baby, and now we have a look at their kid for the first time, check it out.

Baby Ruth (lol) will make her debut in New Girls' Season 7 premiere episode. Season 7 is set four years after the events of the finale, so we should expect some major changes for the residents of The Loft. For Cece and Schmidt, this relates to their child, who is three years old at the point where we meet her this upcoming season. Adjusting to parenthood (and therefore actual adulthood) will no doubt be a hilarious struggle for the beloved couple. In particular, it wouldn't surprise me if Schmidt had a hard time dealing with his OCD and control issues. Because we all know how much toddlers don't tend to listen to rules.

This sounds like a great way to keep Schmidt's quirks and issues apart of New Girl's final season, while also not allowing the character to a bumbling buffoon of a father. Schmidt will be a stay at home father when Season 7 premiers, finally being free from the office (and co-workers) that taunted him for the majority of his tenure on the show. Cece is the breadwinner of the family, allowing her to be the strong independent woman we've seen grow during the first six seasons.

Please dont cancel new girl season 7. Nick and jess are finally back togather!! I want to see what happens with them. And shmidt and cece are having a baby!! I would like to know the rush of when she is pregnant, when she is havine the baby, and when it starts gowing up

Now that they have finally put Nick and Jess back together and got rid of Megan Fox I would hate to see this show cancelled. It is a fantastic show that just had a poor season during the time that they decided to introduce the new character of Reagan on it. Please renew. 781b155fdc
